Dryer Not Heating? Here Are the Usual Causes

A dryer that tumbles but does not heat can fail for a few different reasons depending on whether it is electric or gas. Electric units often lose heat because of a failed element, thermal cutoff, or power supply issue. Gas dryers can fail because of igniters, coils, flame sensors, or no gas flow.

Restricted venting is another major factor. Poor airflow causes overheating, repeat fuse failures, and long dry times even when the heat circuit is working part of the time. That is why diagnosis should include both the machine and the vent path.

If your dryer is taking too long to dry, shutting off early, or running without heat, the safest move is to diagnose it before repeated use leads to more damage or a repeat failure.
